T
his year we have selected a member of the faculty staff of
St. Joseph School to celebrate not only their years of service and dedication,
but also the impact they have had on the
many students of this school. We are
very excited and proud to recognize
Mrs. Mary Malone as this year’s Honorary
Gala Chair.
Mrs. Malone has been a part of our Saint Joseph School
family since her own four sons attended the school. She began substitute
teaching at SJS in 1968, and subsequently took on a full-time teaching position
in 1977. When she began, five principals
ago, there was not even a gym, art room, or music room. When they first introduced art to the
children, it was done with a cart going from room to room. Over the years, Mrs. Malone has seen the
growth of St. Joseph School and takes such pride in it, and embraces the spirit
that makes this school such a special place…a place with heart.
In 1994, the library became her new school address. She also coordinates the school liturgies,
and is a testing coordinator. Her pet
project is the Book Fair, held annually during the celebration of Catholic
Schools Week. Mrs. Malone has created a
rich and varied experience for worship in the school. She is actively involved in the many
traditions the children take part in, like our May Crowning of the Blessed
Mother in which are 6th grade students take an active part in Mass,
including dressing up as Joseph and Mary.
The librarian’s interests and expertise in liturgical planning bring
many worship opportunities to our students – Stations of the Cross during the
Lenten season, the Living Rosary services, prayer services throughout the
school year – just to name a few.
During her tenure at our school she has seen many changes
throughout the years, but what never seems to change is the involvement and
active support of parents, the joy of learning shared by the students, the ability
to attract the best teachers and principals, and the continued success of the
students in high school, college and their chosen professions. One of her greatest pleasures is when alumni
return, not only to say hello, which is frequent at the school, but also to
reconnect with the school, teachers and other students of St. Joseph School.
Mrs. Malone has given the gift of herself to St. Joseph
School for years. She shares her love of
learning, faith, and God’s gifts with those around her. St. Joseph School and those who know her are
the beneficiaries of the love from Mary Malone’s heart. We thank you Mrs. Mary Malone.
